1. Overview of the law
The Montana Consumer Data Privacy Act took effect on October 1, 2024. It applies to businesses that process personal data of at least 50,000 Montana residents, or 25,000 residents when more than a quarter of revenue comes from selling personal data. The law is enforced by the Montana Attorney General. SIE meets the 50,000 resident threshold and applies the MCDPA in full.

We honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal as a valid opt-out for targeted advertising and sale of personal data. We obtain opt-in consent before processing sensitive data, including data revealing race, religion, health, sexual orientation, citizenship, genetic or biometric data for identification, precise geolocation, and data of a known child.
4. Authorized agents
Montana allows authorized agents for opt-out requests. The agent should provide written authorization signed by you. We may verify the request with you directly before acting on it.
