1. Overview of the law

The Maryland Online Data Privacy Act took effect on October 1, 2025. It applies to businesses that process personal data of at least 35,000 Maryland residents, or 10,000 residents when more than twenty percent of revenue comes from selling personal data. The law is enforced by the Maryland Attorney General. MODPA is widely considered the most protective state privacy law in the country.

2. Your rights

Right of access. Confirm processing and get a copy of your personal data.
Right to correct. Fix inaccurate personal data.
Right to delete. Have personal data we hold about you erased.
Right to portability. Receive your data in a usable format.
Right to opt out. Stop targeted advertising, sale of personal data, and certain profiling.
Right to data minimization. We may only collect data reasonably necessary for the service you use.
Right to be free from sensitive-data sales. We may not sell sensitive data, even with your consent.

3. How SIE complies

We apply strict data minimization to Maryland-resident processing: we only collect what is reasonably necessary to deliver the requested service. We do not sell sensitive data under any circumstances. We do not use targeted advertising for any user we know to be under eighteen, and we obtain opt-in consent before processing sensitive data including health, sexual orientation, race, religion, citizenship, genetic or biometric data, precise geolocation, and consumer health data such as data on reproductive or gender-affirming services.

4. Authorized agents

Maryland allows authorized agents for opt-out requests. The agent should provide written authorization signed by you. We may verify the request directly with you before acting on it.

6. Effective date and scope

The MODPA took effect on October 1, 2025. The law covers Maryland residents acting in a personal or household context. Personal data processed in a B2B or employment context is out of scope.
